MLB: Milwuakee Brewers vs. St. Louis Cardinals

Getting to see some of the top prospects that have come through Springfield make it to the bigs is a really nice treat for me. In the case of this game, many of the players that I once talked casually with at Hammons Field, are now performing at the top of the league’s charts. It’s exciting to see guys like Joe Kelly, Shelby Miller, Matt Adams, Shane Robinson, Carlos Martinez, Audrey Perez, Kolten Wong, and others now bear the “birds and bats” proudly across the chest on a daily basis. It is also interesting how they are not the young ballplayers of old. Sure they are still only 23 or 24 years old, but they have matured in a way that many don’t. This game featured several former Springfield Cardinals players making a large dent in the St. Louis Cardinals making a run to the playoffs.

First Place Cardinals Sweep Pirates

There is nothing better than getting to spend a day in baseball heaven. I have been incredibly fortunate in my short career to see some of the best athletes in their perspective professions and yesterday, the young St. Louis Cardinals team proved that their age wasn’t going to hold them back.

On Sunday, the Cardinals added a game to their first place lead by beating the Pirates 9-2 and completing the sweep. Second baseman Matt Carpenter set the single season home hit record with his 99th hit on Sunday, and is making a huge statement for his contention for the NL MVP. One of the greatest things for me on Sunday, however, was getting to see many of the top prospects that I had covered in Springfield in the past three years get their chance in the majors. At one point, eight of the nine players on the field were former Springfield Cardinals in the last three years. Long story short, it was a great day to do my job, and an important day to cover Cardinals baseball.

Shooting the Big League

I regularly update my blog and highlight images from some of the Minor League Baseball (MiLB) games I photograph in the Texas League. Every now and then I get phone calls from my editors at Getty Images to do some fill in work in the St. Louis area. Last weekend was one of those weekends where I made my way up to Busch Stadium in Downtown St. Louis and shot Saturday’s game between the home town Cardinals and the Pittsburgh Pirates. The shoot went smoothly and I can only continue to thank my editors over at Getty Images for the opportunity and being so great to work with.

Reds Overcome Cardinals 3-2 After Delay

The threat of rain had been nearing as the beginning of the St. Louis Cardinals game against the Cincinnati Reds. Around 9 p.m. the skies opened up and rain began to come down hard at the break in the 6th inning. The delay held off the game until 11:27 p.m. The Reds had scored right before the delay started and took a 3-2 lead over the Cardinals. Over the next few innings the St. Louis Cardinals tried to rally and almost scored in the eighth inning but a force out was accomplished just prior to St. Louis Cardinal First Basemen Albert Pujols crossed home plate.

I have updated my sportsshooter page with some images as well as included images below.

Rain, Rain, Go Away…

Two hours and 10 minutes to game time and the tarp is still on the field of Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. We are stuck in the press room due to the rain, that and no fans are present. Hopefully the rain goes away and we can get a game underway. I am sure it will happen.

10 More Images from the Cardinals 20 inning game against NY Mets

I got a chance to go back and take a look at my work from the 20 inning game Cardinals-Mets game that I shot about two weeks ago. I looked for something different and I found that I took a decent amount of portraits. Most of them are not too stellar but hey, I had them so I wanted to share.  I have uploaded them to my Sportsshooter Member Page. I look forward to seeing how I fair this weekend as I head back up to the proving grounds known as Busch Stadium. Hopefully the game will not go scoreless for 18 innings.

Cardinals lose after 20 innings to Mets on Saturday

Saturday’s game starring the St. Louis Cardinals and the New York Mets at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri sure was one for the ages. Or was that ageless? After 7.5 hours, the game finally ended, and many of the photographers began to off load images. It was a hard game for me, as I was having so many problems it was endless. At first my Java uploader for Southcreek Global was not working – my fault because the java uploader on my computer was going AWOL and I could do nothing about it. Then while attempting to FTP the photos across the wire, my FTP username went dead. Talk about not good. I could not get any images out from the game until about 12:50 last night.

While games like last night’s might be great for crowds and entertainment, in my eyes, they are only good for two things. Those would be: 1. Making it incredibly hard to make great action photos, and 2. raising the blood pressure of many of the eager fans ready to see a player crush one out of the park for the winning run.

Overall, Saturday’s Mets at Cardinals game, was a good pitching game and I feel like I got some very solid photos out of it. I just updated my Sportsshooter Page – (Click Here). Below are just a few of my favorite shots from the game:
