Members of the Springfield Catholic Fighting Irish celebrate after winning Wednesday’s Class 3 championship game over the Christian Eagles during the 2014 MSHSAA Baseball Championships at T.R. Hughes Stadium on June 4, 2014 in O’Fallon, Mo. (David Welker/For the News-Leader)
Two weeks ago, I made my second visit to T.R. Hughes ballpark in O’Fallon, Missouri for the second year the Missouri State High School Baseball State Championships were held there. Last year, we had a week full of rain that postponed several games and we got drenched. This year however, we only had rain the last day, and the rest of the week was beautiful weather. Below are some of my frames from the week, including a group of photos from a game feature I shot for the News-Leader.
For the second year in a row, the Springfield Catholic Fighting Irish baseball team made it to the State Championship game. My job for the Springfield News-Leader was to provide coverage of the Irish seeking a state championship win. They ended up defeating the Christian Eagles 8-3 to claim the Class 3 title.

Oh what a difference a day makes. The first day of the 2014 MSHSAA Track Championships was a blistering one. Zero shade, no relief from the sun and heat beating down on those of us around the track. On Friday evening, I said to my writer for the St. Joseph News-Press that I didn’t want to get sunburned on Saturday. Who would have guessed that there was going to be storms rolling through the area the next day and would make an additional sunburn unlikely. It had been five years since I last shot a big track meet, and I really had to beat off the rust. Here are just a few of my favorite frames.
For most people, the days following the Thanksgiving holiday usually contain lots of shopping and usually putting up the first of their Christmas decorations around the house. For the past two years however, I have had the priviledge to be in downtown St. Louis, Missouri covering the Missouri High School State Football Championships and this year was no different. I was excited to be there this year because of the different match ups that were going to be happening this year. Let’s just say that there were some great games this year. I was also excited to see how each year I can improve on how I see photos and stories happening right before my eyes and how I can also be a bit different in my approaches to covering a game. Just as I hoped, I did improve over last year and my shooting style continues to change for the better. Below are just a few of my images from this years Championship games, but if you would like to see my top 60 or so, check them out here: 2010 MSHSAA State Football Championships.
